The discovery of the lost English King

Would you go for dinner with someone with completely political views? For many, the idea of even a passing conversation with someone on the other side of the aisle is to be avoided. So, sitting down for dinner with someone with those views would be a nightmare! One British newspaper does exactly this all the time. They take 2 people with different views and get them to talk about their opinions, to see where they are different and where they have common ground. Very often, participants discover that they have much more in common than they first think. Of course, healthy debate and sharing opinions is important for us all to get along. But, sometimes conversations like these can seem so toxic. So, if you’re not quite ready yet to go to dinner with someone on the other side of the political spectrum, you can read the recap of the people in this article instead.
It may not be a surprise for many of you, but a recent study has found that 1 in 5 job postings are fake. Specifically, it found that these “ghost jobs” either didn’t exist at all, or the positions were never filled. What is maybe worse is that in a survey of employers, 62% of respondents stated that they wanted their current employees to “feel replaceable”. There may be some answers for this behaviour – Some companies may be trying to judge the market, ahead of an increase in hiring. However, another challenge of job seekers is not even addressed in this article. That is, the problem of entirely fake companies. Now, job posting scams are often designed to get personal details from hopeful applicants, and the promise of a job (often ones that are not even very well compensated) is just too enticing. Is this just part of the modern job market that we will all need to get used to? Have you encountered a job scam before? I am very interested in hearing about your experiences in class.
The video shared this week is actually quite old now. I was reminded of this story recently when reading a history book. If you haven’t heard it before, it is definitely a very interesting one. The Battle of Bosworth Field is an event that a lot of Brits have heard of, even if they don’t know what it was about. For many, learning about the long line of Kings and Queens is part of school life, after all. In this battle, King Richard III died, but the rest of the story is where things get interesting. The battle changed British history, and the events in the years to come meant that this history was lost. After such a long time, the burial site was lost, but was remarkably found in a low-budget excavation over 500 years after he died. If you are interested in history, this is a great story, and there is much more to read about the topic if you want to know more!
